Sean & I went apartment hunting back in December & found some really nice ones in a good location that we loved! Since it was too early to sign a lease or make a deposit we just walked away happy with an image of what our new place together was going to be like. Well we called this place right around the middle of January & they only had one, and were only going to have this one before March, of the layouts that we liked. Unfortunately we would have to come up with the deposit & first months rent by February & Sean would have had to move in. Then we found out it would be on the 3rd floor. And we turned it down.
So ever since then we've been trying to decide house or apartment, scouring craigslist for good deals & driving around nice neighborhoods looking for FOR RENT signs. It's been frustrating to say the least. We had found & emailed about 8 houses on craigslist with no return email until last night...our first email from a man who gave us his phone number & asked us to call. Once Sean did he set up a time that night for us to do a walk through. We made the 15min drive in the pouring rain to see this cute house on Dartmouth.

It's in a really nice neighborhood. Right on the corner. Nice front and backyard with citrus trees and a garden area complete with a drip system. Living room, family room, kitchen, a large master bedroom with bath. Then two other rooms (guest & office) laundry room, another bathroom, and a two car garage! It's a funny story too because we pulled up to the house the same time the owner did and he gets out(an older man) in a suit. We both instantly question "is he a member?" So as we're doing the walk through Sean calmly asks
"so were you working late or did you have meetings tonight?"
the owner, we'll call him bro H, says " just some meetings"
Sean pries some more "church meetings?"
Bro H "yes. are you folks lds?"
Sean "yeah"
Bro H "I wanna make a deal right now! It's so refreshing to have a nice, young lds couple getting married first & then starting their lives together. I would love to rent this house to you!"
We then continue the walk through & he gives us some history about the house. Built in 1999. 1600 sq feet. His daughter & husband owned it before the husband lost his job so when they moved to a new state Bro H offered to buy it from them. The only appliance we need is a washer/dryer, conveniently my sister has, but will no longer need come feb 12. Bro H normally wants $800 deposit plus first & last months rent, but for us he just wants first months rent up front (which will count as March rent) then a $500 deposit March 1 and its ours! Sean called Bro H today to ask if we're allowed to paint because right now every wall is stark white & he told us that he's going to replace all the carpet! So he'll get it all ripped out then we'll come in & paint then he'll install new carpet & give us the keys! Then we can slowly start moving things in!
Finding this house has truly been a blessing from the Lord. Bro H will be a fantastic landlord and this house is the perfect starter house for us! Now we have to find colors & make the time to paint! Happy Day Happy Day!
